What is psychoanalysis?

The Cyprus Society of the SFL is organising a seminar event in Ispra, Italy on 12th of April 2023 responding to the question of what is psychoanalysis? The event will consist of two seminars presented by psychoanalysts of the School of the Freudian Letter Petros Patounas and Penny Georgiou.

Speaker: Petros Patounas

On the Divine Spirit of Language

Patounas will touch upon basic yet vital questions such as “What is happening in the sessions” or “Who is eligible for sessions,” “What is the ‘job’ of the psychoanalyst” and “How and if psychoanalysis cures”.

Interlocutor: Penny Georgiou

Speaker: Penny Georgiou

When are you?

Psychoanalysis gives time and place to hear the speaking being; the sentient being, the subject of science who dreams its object. Enigmatic and fleeting, its presence of ‘natural intelligence’ flickers between civilisation’s infinite stream of imperatives, memes and soundbites seeking its place and movement in life.

Penny Georgiou, invites us to consider how we can navigate times of rapid change, especially as advances in technology exceed the limits of what we have believed possible. At the same time, our inescapable yet unuttered questions remain the same: How am I living my time? When am I?

Interlocutor: Petros Patounas
