The concept of Drive in Freud and Lacan

On Saturday 14th of May, Dr Elena Loizou, psychoanalyst in formation and special scientist at the University of Cyprus, will deliver a seminar on the topic: ‘The concept of Drive in Freud and Lacan’.

Description:

In this study, I will present two texts of Freud and one of Lacan on the subject of drive.

The material I used is the following

Sigmund Freud: “Pulsions et destins de pulsion » (Instincts and vicissitudes).

This text disassembles the concept of drive (drive, excitation, satisfaction/ push (poussee), goal, object, goal, source/ destinies of the drive: reversal into the opposite, return on the self, repression, sublimation.

« Au-delà du principe de plaisir » (Beyond the pleasure principle).

In this long and very detailed text Freud introduces the concept of a death drive., after reviewing the pleasure principle, the repetition compulsion. I read the French test in parallel with the German one for reasons of clarity.

Jacques Lacan, Le Séminaire livre XI, Les quatre concepts fondamentaux da la psychanalyse, chapter XII « Démontage de la pulsion ». (Disassembling  the drive)

This presentation can only be considered as preliminary.
